I recently was accepted into college after an almost eight year break. I'm slowly going to take one class at a time and try to earn my degree in Creative Writing. Has anyone else gone through something like this? How did you get prepared again? Was it hard getting back into things after being away for so long or is it one of those things like riding a bike?

I originally dropped out and then went back to finish an undergraduate degree and then do graduate studies.

Although college seems mainly something for the 18-22 year-old group there are older students there as well who go back for various reasons. I don't recall it being particularly difficult to prepare for. I viewed it like a job with tasks to complete.

I had several classmates in college who were returning to school from the work force. They were a bit older than you (it seems). What I noticed is they had less natural aptitude for education [think about it, the best learner is a 1 baby, because they are learning every moment. New language from scratch? Easy! We stay in the groove through school to college, but the habit can get rusty.] yet their maturity, motivation and solid study habits more than made up for it.

Good luck! With a little diligence you shouldn't have any problems.

Thank you both for your imput. I'm not as worried about it now, I don't start until the spring for one, but I think with age comes more desire to get things like this done.

I quit school when I was 18 and then I went to university at 25 and now I have finished my B.A. in literature and I am working on my masters degree.

It was extremely hard going back to school but it has been the best time of my life. I have always had a hard time socializing but now I have more than one friend believe it or not, even more than two.

I've gone back after 10+ years. I went from being the person giving dirty looks to the older students who did all their homework on time and did well to being one of those older students that is prepared and doing well. damn it. hahahahaha

The best choice in my life was go to back to school after 10 years out of it. This was more personal for me, but I felt that by going back I could do better than what I did in High School and prove that I could do well. This past 4 years has been the best learning experience for my life.

To get prepared I let everyone know my plans, ensured those that supported me were kept close and those that did not were pushed away, and to expect only the best from myself without being too difficult on the circumstances.

Thank you all for your input. I'm getting excited the closer it gets to that time :)
