I tend to get angst. It is an odd problem as the time when I have angst I become pessimistic and worried about the slightest thing. It can be fought and overcome with a struggle.

The dark side would be the one that isn't in the light. In Star Wars or Lord of the Rings it would be one serving the evil empire or that thing with the weird eye looking for its ring to take over the world.

Or it could just be when one is in a publicly visible bad mood. If it is that, then we all have these unless we are extraordinarily blessed. My typical dark side is impatience. The light side would be realizing that something doesn't have to get done.

That doesn't fit with my angst, which doesn't need anyone else to see or even be aware of it, often for example at night trying to get to sleep or after a nightmare, or just suffering from depression can make some people literally feel suicidal. Swedish has a good expression for that: "don't paint the devil on the wall".

But I agree with your general point, it is a good answer to the question of what is the dark side. And the one-ring of Sauron is a good example of pure evil in its dark form.

You're right. One's bad mood doesn't have to be very visible to others for one to be under its spell, or should I say the spell of the dark side.

Then it is simply a matter of point of view. What is dark to some is humor to others.

What is opposite to dark is bright. One could go to the bright side, but as PeterL mentioned it is somewhat relative to how much sun one wants to get and how much one enjoys the cooler night.
