I think I may be ghost or not long dead,
For I appear invisible to some,
And though I wear a duck upon my head
No comment or enquiry has begun.
When into pleasant company I walk,
While quacking bird sits nesting in my thatch,
I c0ck an ear to monitor their talk,
The waterfowl just hopes her chicks will hatch.
But all those eggs she broods within my hair
Feel lumpy and unyielding on my skull—
She rolls them, periodically, I swear,
To better fit her breast and sharp-keeled hull.
What is it makes us difficult to see?
A bird as hat seems notable to me.

Horton Hears a Who?

As headgear it's no more outrageous than the things the society dames wear to thoroughbred tracks.

Good thing it's invisible. Otherwise, when you walk into a bar (you'd call it a pub, I guess),the barkeep might ask you why you've got a duck's nest on your head, and the duck might say, "Why do I have this dude --I guess you'd say "chap"-- underneath me?"

Whatever you do, don't shoo it away. Like the line in a Woody Allen movie: "We needed the eggs."

G'day, Y/N. The duck probably takes it in her stride. Invisibility must be considered a distinct advantage for a brooding bird. ;) I doubt that she is particularly troubled by existential angst! Thanks for reading :)

I don't think I've seen more than the last 10 minutes of the cinematic version of that story, so I'm not really up to speed on that comment! As for the other, I guess it's quite possible that the barkeep would address the duck directly and ignore the person underneath altogether... As for the eggs, I think I covered those at some length in another story :D
