Electric Kool-Aid

Think that “this must be the place”
and stumble into a bright classroom
with dry mouth and a twisting stomach
the night before follows close behind
in this race called life that you're bound to lose
Who avoided the Kool-Aid?
Not you.

You sit there shaking
sweating out a ten dollar jug of wine
and a month’s worth of cigarettes
that you vacuumed down into your lungs
f*ck consequences

Your eyes close and your head tilts back
dilated pupils can see through the black
walls of color from behind your eyes
that drift through raging imaginary
oceans of the mind, intricate
patterns forming shapes with bright
shades of red, green, and blue, back to
a time before you were born...

Shouts scream out from above the clouds
to snap you awake with tremendous fury
in hurricane buzzing alarm confusion

dreams float but memories sink
you find your Self at home, right
where you want to be.
