I've just started reading Marianne Moore, and I would like to know what everyone else thinks of her work.

I really like her poem 'A Graveyard', but I felt like it was maybe too easy - and at the same time like there is a lot I am missing. Is there anything I should know about this poet before delving deeper?

She is a recognized poet. I don't know whether Morpheus would consider her canonized or not. Do you think she was a great poet? I never found anything to cause me to feel that way. I should probably reread her.

After reading a bit more of her, I kind of like her. I'm not interested in if she is a 'great' poet. I'm only interested in if she's a good one, and so far she seems good enough for now. She maybe is not a new favourite of mine though, looking for more informed opinions though.

[QUOTE=Poetaster; I kind of like her.

Me too. However, I usually make very small effort to pursue poets I kind of like. That is why I never pursued her again.

It is possible, in fact quite common, for poets to say wonderful things in a wonderful way but still not interest us. This may very well be the case with miss Moore and many other poets I do not care for. I have no revulsion to her, but simply found her moderately interesting. If miss Moore impacts someone like an asteroid from outer space, that is nothing for me to deny. I would like to have inroads to all of the so-called great poets, but like the limited mortal I am, I can only see the great value in some of them.
