I published a book-length non-fiction account of the 1984-86 Ethiopian famine many years ago, but never had any of my fiction published until now. I have to admit that it gives me a sense of pride and satisfaction.

The story, “The Caterpillar Tree,” took second place in the Hackney Literary Award (state level) for Short Stories and was published in the July 2014 edition of the Birmingham Arts Journal. I’ll see if I can attach the free online version of that edition here.

If interested, membership information to support the Birmingham Arts Journal is on the send last page.

I hope you enjoy the story.

This reader has lurked on your offerings here, though he's lacked the umpf to make any responses to any threads in general for a long time now...

That said, Jack of Hearts was looking at one of your postings the other day and thought,"Wow, this writer has come a long ways." Congratulations on well deserved progress.

Yes, I agree. A nicely realized piece, well paced and well executed. Well done and congratulations. May you have many more successes.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
As I don't hang out in literary circles, I've often felt like I was writing in a vacuum, but since joining this Forum, that's no longer the case. It's been great for getting comments and feedback from people who understand the art of writing and also to see what other people are writing and the kind of feedback they get.
Thanks again for the constructive criticism and encouragement in my past postings; I look forward to sharing more with you.
