I Dreamed of Harvey Weinstein

I dreamed of Harvey Weinstein on Emmy Eve.
He came bang-bang-banging on my front door,
with my script in one hand,
an outsized check in the other.

He looked just like his color photo
on Wikipedia, until he suddenly grew
a beard and a pair of black-rimmed cheaters
which made him a dead-ringer for Allen G.

Cut to the Red Carpet, outside the venue
for the Oscars, Tonys – whatever- where
I was doing a graceful glissade
in my beat-up, blessedly holy sneakers,

while wearing the ghosts
of Preston Sturges, Roz Russell,
Eddie Bracken – all of ‘em
on my bony back.

I name-checked even more
when called to the stage,
as I wanna, wanna, wanna
thank them all,

while clutching that glittering statuette
with the slender fingers
of my artistic hands,
at the same time secretly wondering

if my triumph had anything to do
with the eggplant parm
and the wilted salad topped
with imitation “bacon” bits

that I ate last night.

Interesting Aunty :)

I find myself having dreams (nightmares??) about Hollywood and various popstars (some have taken up way too much time in my private cinema), usually in a party setting, but often on a train or in Gottfried Helnwein’s Boulevard of Broken Dreams scenario too.

The set up stanza for this evoked Dorothy Parker's "check enclosed" reference to the most beautiful words (which, quite coincidentally, also happen to be my personal favorites ;) ).

Lots of ceremonial imagery, presumably from your subconscious trying to make sense of the Emmy's?

I'm guessing the G stands for Ginsberg - which is an allusion to be proud of - and this does possess a beat feel, whether intentional or otherwise. It works regardless.

And the name dropping from the Golden Age is also a good touch, again a bit Ginsbergian.

Can't help wondering if the "bacon" might be a pun on "ham"?

Anyway I likes it muchly, and you deserve your own star outside the Chinese Theatre :)
