The reflection as it is
in a pool in the concrete
of a mineshaft, long and dangerous,
through which stars escape

The people who populate
every corridor like fallen fruit
fallen heavily, and who ripen
at the mention of a wait

A swimmer's motion through
hexagonal light reversed,
and what comes out on top
is a shout, a stopless end

I like this piece, Lykren. When I read it, I'm always expecting something more peaceful. But the images, in contrast to the title, are so unexpectedly dark. The first stanza turns the way we see the night world upside down. In the second I feel so sad for these "fallen" people, as if they are more than fallen fruit, as if they have made their way into something written by Dante, and which is intensified in your final stanza which just seems like one long, angonizing, eternal howl.

Lol, Lykren. I did start to end my last comment with 'thanks a lot.' But I refrained. :D
