Hi people,

I'm new here and I need help.

Spent the last eight months writing a book. My question is this:

Can one long essay be a publishable book ( is there a term for this sort of book )?

If so, how many words would be appropriate.

Thanks :)

One long essay as...? What is it, fiction or non-fiction? What genre, what's your target audience? etc.

Essay in the sense that one major conflict exists, handling the present, when the past is filled with loose ends.

Would it be correct to say that it's a memoir?

In that case ask yourself some tough questions. What puts you in a special position to be writing a memoir that other people will particularly be drawn to read? Are your personal achievements go so far as to convince the random reader that they will benefit in some way by reading your struggles with xyz? Compare your work with other of this sort in the market (better, you should have a good acquaintance with those works prior to writing your own book), and ask yourself in what way your book is different - and better, new - from the other such memoirs.

I say that because these are the questions the answers to which you'll need to put in your query when you start looking for a publisher.

Good luck :)
