I just read it today, and over and over again, the main character talks about how he is over-heated. What's up with that?

That's easy... to quote from the book, “it is better to burn than to disappear”... the character is doing just that, both figuratively and literally for perpetrating a senseless murder. I hope you liked The Stranger better than I did.:)

In more modern slang... it's better to burn out than fade away.
