What French philosopher is recognized as initializing the "tone" of the Romantic Period?
This is a question that is to appear on one of my upcoming exams for my British Literature class and I cannot find it mentioned anywhere in our text. Subsequent google searches have turned up empty. :mad2: Can anyone assist me in answering this?? Thanks.

Looking him up. Here's something that immediately jumps out on his wikipedia entry: His political philosophy influenced the French Revolution as well as the overall development of modern political, sociological, and educational thought. Thoughts??

Well, Rousseau is one of the names listed below the French Romanticism as a wikipedia entry with a litte attachment on the side as "philosophic grounds". Maybe he really is the right answer.

Yep, appreciate it. That's the answer I'm going with; immediately following the earful I give my professor for deceptive exam questions that in no way pertain to what is provided us in the text. I have no problem if they want to have us search outside of it to answer certain questions, but the phrasing of the question suggests that it could be found in the text, which it cannot. I'm a thorough reader and would've have seen it. Thanks again.
