Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

Hi!

Something struck me today! I found a lot of similarities between the novels of Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni and Kate Chopin's "The Awakening". Edna and most of the female characters in the novels of Ms. Divakaruni seem to go through a series of "transformation". Can we please discuss this to generate some ideas?

Much has been said about the mean and self-centered Edna but I, personally, have not read Ms Divakaruni to make a comparison of her characters with those of Chopin's.

It's possible Divakaruni's characters are influenced from Chopin's, or do you think the former's probably an Indian adaptation of the latter?
