early I wake up
a dream about the island
jumble off the sofa

all the usual morning things
the grumbling mutterings
eggs and bacon
crispy buttered toast
orange juice

about to tuck in
when I hear a whump
go to fetch the Daily Drivel
(for the crossword)

I finish up
pile the dishes
in the sink
flip a breath mint
ready for the world

sneak over the fence
to return the paper
when suddenly the heavens open

race to the bus shelter
but
I am inexplicably hit
by a random
bolt of lightning

it hurts
especially around
my eyeballs

it also strangely tickles
as my body flashes bright blue
and briefly I see
my skeleton
stroboscoping

hours pass
or seem to
but after
I'll be told
it was
only a
fraction of a

second

it is a very detailed morning routine and so I am guessing it is either Saturday or sunday.
