Written on one of those hot days when all you can do is sit and melt slowly one drop of sweat at a time and your muscles turn liquid in the heat and you can't even summon the energy to go get a cold drink, no matter how desperately you want one.

Summer

the slow limpid heat
of a summer's day
slides past me
a river of lethe
slow somnolent drifting
down the long lane
of life's memories

the river unwinds
memory unfolds
the images of summer
flow past
bright water
red ball
swim suited beauties
a child's laughter
the burn of the sun
on the back of my neck

aaah sweet summer
if only life
never knew winter
but then would the sun
be as warm?

what a sweet piece very evocative light and flawless
every line is a wonder.
the last stanza on a question is very clever. :)

in similar vein:

traveling on a hot day on a train

the air shimmers with heat above the sere plains
everything is still
your life unrolls with the clicking of the wheels
past and future stretch out like ribbons beside you
traveling through the unknown country of your life
carried to some unseen future
needing to understand the past
somewhere music plays, only distantly heard
the echoes awaken hidden memories
feeling the pulse of the landscape
forgotten sorrows echoing the sorrows of your life
the miles and years click by
on the horizon cool rain falls
a rainbow forms
