For many years I have been an avid reader of fiction but books in France are extremely expensive. My Kindle is a life saver: However religious books are available and can be purchased in the "flea markets". Recently I was given as a present a Book of Meditations dated 1654. It is in Old French and Latin. I would love to know more about its origins. Is anyone able to help?

Hello, Capahorner,

I think that the book you mention might be 'Meditations' by Marcus Aurelius. It really makes sense because bilingual editions of classics were quite popular among literature devotees -though Meditations was originally written in Greek-. I hope I have been able to help you.

Thank you Frédéric. I must apologise for not mentioning the fact that the book is a Christian book of meditation. Studying it further I have discovered that it was compiled by and I quote "Par le P. IEAN BAPTISTE SAINCT IVRE - Religieux de la Compagnie de IESVS.
Thank you again for your interest.
