Hello folks,
I'm a newbie so not sure if this is the right place to plonk this, but hopefully somebody will be able to help!
Does anybody here keep a website or blog? I write lots of bits and bobs like book reviews, poetry, short stories etc, and want to get together a site where I can share it all. The only problem is I'm a bit clueless with website building and I've got no idea where to start... Does anyone have any experience of this?
Would really appreciate any tips from those in the know!
Cheers :)

There's a blog facility on this website, which seems OK. I have created blogger blogs, though I couldn't get motivated enough to keep them going :( But it's free & really easy to get started with. Others rave about Word Press, and I noticed "wordpress.com" now have a facility to get started for free.
So why not try those three blog creation facilities and see which you get on with. (You can also create websites with Word Press, and install them under your own hosting company, so you have full control and aren't tied to Google or this site. So although Word Press might be *slightly* harder to get started with it, it looks by far the most flexible solution.)

Thanks mal4mac, that's really helpful! I did wonder about using this site but I'd rather not be tied to it. Have you got any experience of using 1and1 http://website.1and1.co.uk/website-builder at all? (link included for reference) It's just that it looks a bit easier to use than Wordpress/Blogger and would really like a second opinion.

Hi, this is my first post and i am glad that i am going to help for what you are looking. The best place to start a blog for free is joining blogger.com. It's a free blog hosting service. The service is provided by google and i think it will definitely suite your choice.

Wordpress is the best that I have seen thus far.

I'm also pro Wordpress - it might take a wee bit longer to get into, but there's loads of help in forums out there you basically just have to type in your question into Google. There are also loads of nice themes out there for you to try. Once you have it set up, it's really easy to use.

Thanks so much for all the help! Looks like Wordpress or Blogger may be the way to go. Looking forward to getting started :D

I decided about a week ago to set one up, and after doing a couple minutes of research, settled on Wordpress, also. I haven't done any organizing yet, and I shall sometime, but so far it has some of my poetry

Robby have you got on up now? We'd enjoy seeing it, I'm sure.

Wordpress is good and specially designed for blogging, I have a couple of blogs using it. Blogger is also good with the advantage that you don't need a special username to run one.

A cross between a blog and a website is wix.com: This is one started by someone new to the idea and interested in astronomy: astronomy.wix.com (http://dufferinastronomy.wix.com/dufferinastronomy#!nta/c5ro)

I used blogger.com myself. I really like it. It is very user-friendly. You can also put ads on your blog so it can make money, which is nice. I've never used Wordpress or any other site, so I can't really make a comparison.
