i remember the night the biters came

appeared suddenly
from out of nowhere

everywhere

scuttling across walls

hanging from
verandahs

over fireplaces

from sun visors

in cupboards

in washing machines

in pantries

just dangling there

dangerously

in shoes
in socks

in beds

a mass of the multi-eye
take to the streets
marching in their multiple millions

is it over better pay

and conditions?

a dental plan?

less homework?

who can say?

no-one had seen
the need
to learn arachnid
before

jumpy
acknowledgement
of their presence
had seemed enough

it was webville

riots break out

windows broken

news vans rolled

police cars set ablaze

crowd control
are called in

the prime minister
goes on every
available
air-wave

says he's doing everything he can

"but it's really not my problem"

and is promptly bitten

which brings
a round of applause
from the opposition

the head of
national security
distances
himself from
the comment

sends in the big guns

but the national guard
aren't equipped
nor properly trained
to deal
with an ubiquitous

hairy legged enemy

If not on the eleven o'clock news, then coming soon to a multiplex near you. Why should Peter Parker dominate the franchise?

I thought it was ''not the nine o'clock news'' :D

Thankyou cacian :)

Could perhaps have been 'updates at eleven'? Or ten.

Or nine, or eight...

Thankyou Aunty :)

Funny that you've equated it with cinema, after I submitted it I had a flash of seeing a John Goodman film about a similar subject, which had been pushed as far back in the 'pointless annals' of my memory as possible.

Also, I'm working on a new one but it's still all in bits at the moment :)
