Has anyone else here heard of the the three-piece J-Pop girl band Perfume? I learned about them on Thursday, listened to a few songs on youtube, immediately downloaded their entire discography, and have been listening to it on repeat since then.
This might seem like a bizarre thing to say, but their music reminds me of Steve Reich's Music For 18 Musicians with its deceptive simplicity and repetitiveness that isn't actually repetitiveness. But their singing is wonderful and so I like it a whole lot more than any recording of Reich's work I've yet heard...
On Sunday I went to a concert at which Beethoven's Seventh was performed very well. "The apotheosis of the Dance" really fit in with the rhythmic inventiveness of Perfume I've been bathing myself in.
Anyway I'm going to go to bed now but if anyone would like to chime in and share their own thoughts on Perfume I'd like that! And if you haven't heard them try listening to a few songs of theirs on YouTube. It would be too hard for me to single out just a few to listen to, so I recommend just poking around and seeing if it fits! Night all.
