I don't have any tattoos - I'm really, really not keen on them - but a friend of mine has quite a few, one of which is the phrase 'Geyr Garmr mjök fyr Gnipahelli, festr mun slitna, en freki rinna' written around his thigh. It's from the Old Norse poem Völuspá, and roughly translates as 'Garmr barks greatly before Gnipahellir, the fetter will break, and the wolf run free.'
My supervisor, who has a rather wicked sense of humour, recently got an email from someone who wanted to get a tattoo that said 'Nothing is true. Everything is permitted' written in runes, hence why he was getting in touch with an Old Norse expert. My supervisor's response was pretty much as follows:
Dear X,
I wish I could help, but I'm afraid I'm not really a runologist, which is quite a specialised field in Old Norse studies. I do, however, feel that I should point out that some things are true, and not everything is permitted.
Best wishes,
Y
That made me chuckle.

Yeah, I think between those two sayings... your supervisor's rune would be a better one.:)
I'll have to admit that I'm also not very keen on tattoos, at least going overboard with them. As far as body piercing... I nearly fainted after having my ear pierced when I was younger, so anything more extreme is definitely out of the question.:)
