or poets that you dislike?

Hmmm, interesting question... I think when it comes to the greats I can appreciate what others see in them even when I don't agree. Spenser doesn't really appeal to me for some strange reason, despite having read The Faerie Queen. Similar with Browning, even though I can recognize his genius/talent. Dickinson also doesn't entrance me nearly as much as she does others, though I'd hesitate to say I genuinely "dislike" her. I'm not a big fan of any poet I've read from the 18th century, unless one considers Blake an 18th century poet. There's too much monotony in the form and the style. Of the 20th, I think both Eliot and Pound are quite overrated and prefer a great many poets to both. I think most Confessional poetry besides the originators is cheap and lacking technique or other redeeming features. The vast majority of the generation inspired by the postmodern poetics of Ashbery really sucks, thinking it can hide a lack of effort/talent with weirdness and "originality."
