Hello,

I have registered here specifically to find a particular text. It was mentioned at a funeral I attended years ago and I was very touched by it, but cannot remember it or find anything like it on the internet. I am hoping the lovers of literature here may know of it, or something similar.

The subject is the beauty of a woman ... and the text goes alone the lines of a lover leading a woman into a garden, to the flowers (roses I think), so that he can show off, display her beauty for the flowers to see.

I have no idea of the author, whether it was a poem or not, but it would have to be mid 20th century or earlier

Anything which has this concept though I would love to have a reference

Many thanks

The only poem that springs to my mind is "Come into the Garden Maud" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. But that's 19th century.

Come into the garden, Maud,
For the black bat, night, has flown,
Come into the garden, Maud,
I am here at the gate alone ;
And the woodbine spices are wafted abroad,
And the musk of the rose is blown.

Thankyou!! I do believe that this is the reference I was looking for ... especially as it was used in song mid last century, and the man who gave the eulogy was a well known musician.

Queen rose of the rosebud garden of girls,
Come hither, the dances are done,
In gloss of satin and glimmer of pearls,
Queen lily and rose in one;
Shine out, little head, sunning over with curls,
To the flowers, and be their sun. (53-58)
