Hello,

I have a question regarding the stock character of the ingenue. An ingenue is considered a stock character, and therefore could be seen as a stereotype as well. Could an ingenue also be considered an archetype, the same way the Hero, the Villain, or the Damsel in Distress is? What would you say the difference between an archetype and a stereotype is? Is there a difference?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

This seems to be a homework question.

Yes, you are correct, ha ha. I am writing a paper about the deconstruction of the exotic and erotic Other in Nora Okja Keller's Comfort Woman and if I am going to examine the ingenue as it is found in literature I want to give as thorough a definition as possible.

Wikipedia has a pretty good answer.

I would say that as a stock character, they are an archetype.
