Hi, I am new to this forum, i am interested in antique books but have very little knowledge in what a good price is and other important bits of knowledge that are necessary to collecting.

I am interested in a 2 part volume books set named "A voyage to the south pole" by James cook, it is second edition and in reasonably good condition, there are no missing pages and was printed in 1777. If anybody has any idea on what they are worth it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Second edition in good condition: upwards of ten grand (US). Down to a few hundred for others.

The place to go for a good selection of prices on rare books is Abe Books: http://www.abebooks.com/book-search/title/voyage-towards-the-south-pole/author/cook/pics/sortby/1/page-1/

They have several 2nd editions for sale right now.

The trick with that edition would seem that it's (A) not really all that rare, in view of the number for sale, and (B) it is part of a larger set, which is worth a fortune complete.
