‘MANUEL DELGADO’
On the sign by the door –
Resident, as if you didn’t know -
of this White and Gold haven, this flat on Fifth floor.
The ‘Host With The Most’ -
Though less said about that,
Is the taken approach
by guests he toasts where they’re sat.

Here over the marble-topped bar, they drink in;
Dark, slender arch-eyebrows -
Powder-bright skin.
High-styled hair, Raven black – dyed;
what might be Mascara that pops his brown eyes.
Ingest his movements; sultry, effete –
Framed in fitted ensembles;
Mostly black, chic.

Someone once said, at a party he missed,
this same Delgado once played in the dirt -
in the crime-‘fested slums, the city’s rotten cyst:
“Even then, I’d imagine, in his mother’s only skirt!”
Another chimed in, over her champagne flute:
“Maybe it’s there that the two of the met…
I just can’t fathom how it is such a brute –
Indulges this thing, like a favourite pet?!”

Talk though they may, the fact still remains:
Manuel Delgado is ‘Keep’ of a Don.
B*tch in private, but know all the same;
to get on his bad side is to get it all wrong.
The Money Milieu, have gleaned quite enough –
Through the gains of their extra ‘business’ on the side;
If they still wish to fraternize, to parade their stuff
Manuel Delgado’s a dog to let lie.

So here in his White and Gold palace – Fifth floor,
Over his Marble-topped bar in the back,
Delgado will continue toasting some more;
And they’ll drink him in - trade eyes – and that will be that.

I wish we were friends. I would have included you in my will- to write a cool obituary for myself. So far, this is the best in here in 2014. Share more of your stuff.

I sense undefined eroticism in this poem. It can be gay cruising or straight flirting. Who is Delgado? A hustler maybe. For sure, his humanity is beautiful in the poem. Is he still alive? I want to sleep with him. Not necessarily sex. Just want to admire his mascara-darkened eyes. Maybe only then will I fathom his story.
