When people don't like you
You fear they may be right.
Let's face it.
You don't like yourself so much.
Despite that cheeky grin
And that photo that caught you laughing
On your good side.
That charity donation did not do the trick.
That quality time with your children proved nothing.
Except you will spend quality time trying to find
Your good side
And post it on a child's time line.

When people don't like you
You fear they may be right.
That's not you.
That's your character.
Who you would like to be.
That wink was pure theatre.
You have no idea who you are.
You love people that they me think well of you
In that photo where they caught your good side.

You picture your very funeral
Your favourite song played to a wet eyed house
Boy oh boy they are gonna miss you.
They will never realise you were no good.
They will never know.

Thanks, old pal, for the insincere words, which I love very much though

The artist of self-loathing. No need for the last stanza Jerry.

How well this speaks to our deepest insecurities.

This one is ringing all kinds of bells-- i.e., it "resonates." The last stanza ("strophe") really hit home. When that inevitable day comes, I really doubt my survivors will be able to round up six pallbearers to haul yours fooly's sorry carcass to the boneyard. But hey, that's their problem.
