Hi, everybody! :smile5:

I prefer to celebrate winter solstice instead of Christmas, but it’s good to have a reason to chat with you fine people nonetheless! The days will be getting longer, and I love me some sunlight (which is why someday I want to live on the Mediterranean). But I digress.

My dad gave me eleven dollars to buy some books. The library in my city has a way of selling library books to the public that aren't getting checked out, or also other books that have been donated from some very generous people. As an active library volunteer, I have access to a wide array of books otherwise inaccessible to the public and that, although I pay the same price as the public, they’re so darn cheap!

Guess how many books I got from that small sum of money! Go on, guess!!! I acquired 19 books! Some of which are admittedly second-hand copies defiled with people’s grubby little paws, but some of them are pristine. Four hardbacks and a buttload of paperbacks! Some of them include The War of the Worlds, Anna Karenina, Ibsen, a few zombie books, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, James Patterson, a hardback copy of the complete works of Edgar Allan Poe (the latter I got for a mere 2 dollars!). It’s embarrassing how excited I was. I can’t stop looking at my shelf and admiring such a pretty sight and pondering what ineffable wonders are beckoning.

Is anyone jealous yet? Hehe. Only joking, of course.

What are some of your Christmas book gift stuff? I hope you all get plenty of books for Christmas, and by way of reciprocation, give books as gifts to others too.

Let me just say that this forum board is awesome and that you people rock! Happy Holidays (including Kwanza)!!!

I just re-read my post. I'm sorry if this came off as bragging. I just wanted to share my enthusiasm! :) I especially apologize if I offended anyone who celebrates Christmas when I mentioned my preference for winter solstice. It's an awesome holiday, and I didn't mean to imply that it's bad or anything.

Again, Happy Holidays! :)

No, it's not "bragging." Genuine enthusiasm is always welcome, especially about books.

Yup, more expression of genuine enthusiasm please!

At the moment I'm trying to get quickly through two of my library books, as I've just spotted two more I *really must* borrow, and my library card is maxed out. Must go now, must finish reading, and get to the library before somebody else borrows the ones I want :)

I'll third that; I think most people on a board like this will have experienced something like this and will understand completely. However, IMO, there is something wrong with apologizing for naming one holiday and not including every other possible belief system. Winter solstice is just fine, so relax. :)

It absolutely does not seem like bragging. It seems like the most fun ever!
