Christmas Song

The day is bright.
Snow bounces light.
I realize I'm here.
It's warm inside.
Outside we slide
With Christmas evening near.

Dichotomies Disintegrate

It's naturally miraculous,
The way things ought to be.
Mary and her child don't mind.
They're resting peacefully.

True story: When my son was 6 weeks old, his mom an I took him to Chicago to meet my parents. During our stay, we headed off to the Art Institute. It was the first time Mom had been away from my son for a whole day. Naturally, every time she saw paintings of Baby Jesus, she started lactating. Perhaps one reason the Christmas story has so much resonance and staying-power is that we all think that our own children will save us from our sins, and grant us eternal life (in a sense at least). The Christmas story takes the personal and makes it universal.
