Overall, I thought 1984 was a good book, but very complex for the politically naive high school student. I feel it would be benificial to read again in later years, in which Orwell's messages may become more clear. One of the more obvious warnings that I agree with, is Orwell's ideas of survalence. He predicted this and it has evidently become more true today than ever. I feel he warned the reader about a society being supervised at all times, via the telescreen, but is quite accurate for the present. There are cameras monitoring almost everything, everywhere you go. Around school, on the bus, traffic lights, banks, ATMs, and front facing cameras on phones or computers are all supervising and catching your every move, just like Orwell suggested in the novel. And what happens to all the footage collected? Is there someone who manages it to see any potential threats? Or is only some footage of suspects revised and used? This is identical to what Orwell reveals in the novel about a supervised city with no clue why they are constantly monitored, which we have become as a society today. In conclusion, I agree with Orwell's ideas of survalence and I congratulate him on what is now a spot on prediction.

I agree that you must read it when you are older to get more of the concept of the book. It is a very informational and entertaining book when you under stand the reasons behind it. If I were to read it without going over it with an adults point of view, the book would male no sense or I wouldn't get the right message. I believe the book meaning can change by person, so reading it when you have formed a complete opinion on government it will be a more personal book. Most of the "Warnings" were written in the text and could be easily understand. The obsessive surveillance Big Brother had is an example. It was written in the book that they are being watched almost every minute of the day. He also his some of the "Warnings" and you would have to dig deep into the book to understand. An example of some hidden guidance is what the big brother posters said. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ingnorance is strength. You had to really think about how that made sense in the novel. Overall I believe it was a well written novel that opened our eyes to what the government is or could be doing.

I've been saying that for years! Still, I think people get more from it from having read it at school, then reading it later.
