1984 was definitely an intriguing novel! But the real debate is that should it be taught in high school or not? In my opinion, if students are looking for a challenge, especially in honors or AP classes. Books like this one are perfectly acceptable! It is definitely quite a challenge to understand some concepts. But is overall a very interesting novel! In regards to being in regular high school classes, I do not see this book being acceptable to teach. This book in its entirety is at a college reading level and a majority of students would struggle severely if they had to come in contact with this book! Even kids in Honors and AP classes struggle with it! So overall, if high school students are looking for a challenge then this is the perfect book for them! Otherwise, this book should continue to be taught only in college.
