As my teacher would say, I find that Orwell does a good job "ringing the bell" on certain topics and showing warning towards the future. When it comes to living a monitored and controlled life, I think that he is near on point. We may not notice that we are living with some similarities to the people of Oceania, but there is no question that those similarities do exist. There were however some topics that I did not agree with such as the torture at the end of the novel, but for the most part I found the reading of 1984 to be an eye opening experience and an overall good book.:coolgleamA:

I suppose these days, the constant monitoring of your life resembles 1984 more than the totalitarian regimes do. These days only North Korea resembles Oceania.
What do you mean by not agreeing with the torture at the end of the novel?
Explain a bit about yourself. Where are you from? Why are you reading this book?
I am glad you like the book. Orwell is a hero of mine, not just because of Animal Farm and 1984. He was a truely extraordinary person.
