Winter's Embrace

Your starkness enshrouds me,
I am embraced by your frigidness,
it moves me in strange, mystifying
inexplicable ways. I am fascinated
by your brittleness, because it seems
at moments so easy to shatter,
and yet you are so inpenetrateable.

Your beauty remains unfathomable,
sublime, terrifying, unyielding, and unchanging,
immortal, and yet vanishing, for all too soon
I might watch you begin to fade away before my
very eyes, but if I wanted, like a wayward bird
I could follow you across continents, or simply
wait through the passages of time.

But you will always be so utterly
unattainable, or perhaps you could
carry me with you, you could hold me
within your stoic bareness, you know
the words to whisper that lulls one
into the everlasting sleep, and I would
be preserved beneath your frostbitten touch,
I am raptured by your cruel, and yet strangely
merciful attentions.

If it were not for the title I might be fooled into thinking this was naive love for a bastard.

That was a good word to end on; 'attentions'.

Haha yes, winter/cold are two things not usually associated with love, so I like to play with the idea of joining those two ideas together.
