Sweet Freedom
Well folks, Michael McDonald at his very best.
This tune and video are so very hip, so very cool, so very happening, you want to steal Sheila E’s timbales and play it yourself, drumming fools that we all are. The beat is a very danceable rapid pulse, the cord changes are chromatic, whatever chromatic means, but it sounds good.
The locations are pure Euro or pure Brazil ( I hope ) and authentic as all get-out. The players are young and vital and always in flux.
Unlike Lennie Kravitz’s party on the video I want to Get Away, this party is pure clean fun and demonstrates one can party without drugs. (Liquid or otherwise for those of you who don’t consider alcohol a drug, you most foolish of fellows.)
No, alcohol isn’t a drug. It’s a drink, it’s a beverage, with fricken ice cubes in innocent tinkling glasses host to flotillas of Japanese pink rice-paper parasols. That's what it is. It's an innocent monster.
The music is a perfect blend of good-time video and hip ex-Doobie Brother Mike.
Go to it, oh Silver-headed ex-Doobie Mike. Safri Duo- rock on you Portuguese percussionists you.
There are plenty of us other silver-heads in the conga line behind you who know how to Doobie as well.
