Hello everyone...

I was wondering if anyone can help me find a word... I am looking for a word, however obscure, to describe the act of rearranging objects, you surroundings or an environment (such as your living room) to reflect your mood or feelings. I would greatly appreciate any help or guidance... the closest I have managed is 'pathetic fallacy' with relation to projecting of feelings onto the objects... but that's just not what I'm after.

Thanks in advance,

Debs x

The closest I can think of is anthropomorphising, but that is the act of projecting human qualities on animals or things, not really moods.

Maybe projecting/projection is a better word.

Arranging one's surroundings to reflect one's emotional state. AOSTROES I think that may be pronounceable.

Surely it was fengthingy but as she hasn't replied I guess her environment has overwhelmed her.

Deborah I have done just what you are doing or have done in my living room, this big rearrange has followed the passing of my beloved spouse.

I call it my rebirth!!!

If the end result is repetitive, unproductive and distressing, the psychologist will call it obsessive-compulsive rearranging, mood congruent (as in your case, or incongruent if otherwise)
If you get paid to do that, bingo.. you are an interior designer!
