It is to my interpretation, that Winston wanted to trust O'Brian from the start when Winston first thought O'Brian was a rebel as well. And furthermore, did trust him, even when Winston was caught and tortured by him. Why is that? Opinions?

I actually think it is because it was his one major sense of hope throughout this whole novel. If he were to give up on O'Brien, then he might as well have given up on all hope entirely. No matter what O'Brien did.
