This tragedy by Shakespeare cannot be truly enjoyed on the first read. It is after revisiting this play that the true symbols and themes mean something. On the first read, one is only thinking how lame Macbeth is and how overpowering Lady Macbeth is. Later, after some distance from the events, one realizes the power of the play. In today's society, too often people commit crimes without a second thought and their guilt doesn't seem to affect them. Macbeth proves that human nature is still the same, unfortunately our sense of guilt and moral dignity has changed.
