In the book, many things such as the gin Winston drinks start with the name "victory". I did not quite understand the reasoning behind the name to a full extent, though i have a small general idea that it has to do with another governmental trick to make the people feel better about what they have.

Orwell may have been inspired by Victory V (http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30084544) cigarrettes sold during WW2.

It is designed to link even mundane things like coffee to victory. Victory over Eastasia, with which Oceania has always been at war!
