Living the Dream

[Delta40]

Here we are
crammed in like sheep
on board a live export truck
overheating from Esperance
to Fremantle docks.

Some of us are bound to die
in the eight hours it takes
to earn enough to pay one day
worth of interest
from a thirty year mortgage.

Tongues swell
eyes bulge
and limbs snap
as we all fight to hang on
in the cruel heat of living.

I have nothing particular to say about your poem, Delta; I like it very much, relate to the feeling of a fellow sheep in one of those trucks most of the time (strangely a bit less so during weekends, lol). But you're right – should be bumped and commented on, so here's a hearty "Bump"!

Ah the daily grind ever en route to the slaughterhouse. Happy days :) I guess there is some literal heat in there too. Be grateful, it's chuffing freezing here :)
