Hurry to sleep
to keep your nighttime tryst.
Wouldn't want to miss
your closest lover's kiss.

Morning waking
causes your aching
why the rush?
The parting is too abrupt.

Me and my wound
kept the stitching between us.
We provided the fabric.
We provided the seams.
We proved the needle
could do it's handywork
and embroider
a craft from pain.
Perhaps the binding will
somehow glue the love between us
and mend some forgiveness
into this soulful art.

She preached
In her holy laundry room.
Sang hymns to make the daily chores
endurable.
Recited psalms,
of life lessons,
playgrounds with taunting children,
and forgave us our transgressions
of spitting back.
She bleached the white clothes
from fights avoided,
salvageable.
She threw holed jeans
and blouses snagged
by harsh words and harsher hands,
unamendable.
In the end we remembered
Those seasons of youthful days
All cleaned, folded, and stored away.
