I think that it was interesting irony that it was stubborness that was the downfall of both Lear and Cordelia. Lear was stubbnorn in not accepting her honest words of love toward and Cordelia was stubborn in not acting hypocritical while expressing love toward her father in words. True, it was noble of her but seeing his reaction to her simpleness, shouldn't she have prevented the loss of love between father and daughter over so small a thing. However, it was stobborness that brought them back together, Lear, determined not to live with such evil daughters, quit his wealth and safety for poverty and danger. And Cordelia was determined to help her father no matter what the cost despite their falling out, so she led her army against her sisters to give Lear back the throne even though he probably would have died soon anyway. Stubborness and pride I think was the basis of the tradgedy, how it can not only be our downfall, but our redeeming qualities as well.
