I thought I remembered you just now
And I reached for you
An attempt to remember a dream
Receeding faster than thought
Your shadow
Silhouetted inside red eyelids.

I thought I remembered you.
I make tea.
Open the paper.
Three across. You.
Y.O.U.
Seven down.
John Lennon.
Imagine.
Imagine if I remembered you.
I could soon forget you then.

I shut you in the newspaper
Throw you to the floor.
Take a morning piss
Give the wife a goodbye kiss.
Leave the house.

In the park a boy with red hair and cheeks
Is puffing as his pedals squeak.
The sun is rising behind an oak tree avenue.
Your name was Dawn.
We were walking to school
And you showed me the scars
On your legs.
You had sweet brown eyes
Your name was Hazel.

You were orphaned
I wanted to save you, until lunchtime.
Then I forgot you.

I remember you now.
I wish I had noticed.
I wish I had carried you home.

I remember you now
So many years too late.
I think you were the one.
Hazel.
I see you now.

I liked this, It struck a chord - something to do with growing old I suppose.

Missed this one. There are some of your poems that I particularly like because they capture a time that is reminiscent of my own life before Australia which makes them a splendid read.
