what would you say are the English stereotypes that plague the temperament today?
for example the impression:
''the stiff upper lip expression'' have you ever found this to be true?

There are many examples of the 'stiff upper lip' expression, from: 'Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes,' to: 'We'll never surrender.'
But one of the best, concerns John Amery, scion of a noble English family who, against the grain, decided to throw in his lot with Nazi Germany and was subsequently arrested and sentenced to death for treason. He greeted his executioner, the famed hangman Albert Pierrepoint with: 'I've always wanted to meet you Mr.Pierrepont, but not in these circumstances.'
He was hanged at Wandsworth Prison on the morning of 19 December 1945, aged 33.
Like a true English gentleman, he "walked unassisted to his fate after thanking the prison chaplain and warders for their unfailing courtesy". His executioner was Albert Pierrepoint, who described John Amery as one of the bravest men he ever killed.
