I have this book and I don't know much about it. I would love to know anything and everything about it. What language is it in? How old is it? Whats it about?
From what I can remember, the book is from about 1550 and signed by the King of Castilla, of Leon, of the two cecilias of Jerusalem, of Teledo, of Valencia, of Sevilla, of oriental Indies.... Can anyone confirm this?
Am I even in the right place to find info on a book like this?
I also have some official seal which looks to be a stamp.:sosp:
Book contents:
Rl Prlegio
DE
Cdo Hdo DEBARna
afavor de
PEDROMRR CAPEVA
Y DE CAHORS
Y DE LOS SVYOS
Don Fernando POR LA GRACIA DE DIOS Rey de Caflilla, de Leon,....

*can not be posted because I can not post links* (how can I upload photos from my photobucket account?)

It is obviously in Spanish.
I believe that what you copied is the dedication of the book. Are there any chapter titles? If so, they would tell a lot more than the dedication.

No but heres the first paragraph:
Por Quanto es justo que mis vafallos benemeritos, experimenten de mi Real gradtitude, los premios, y honores de que han procurado hacerse dignos por dus merecimientos; Yteniendo consideration a los particulares Serviivios, y acreditada fidelidad de Vos PEDRO MARTIR CAPDEVILA, YDE CAHORS, Vencino de la Villa de Puigcerda, en el mi Principado de Cathaluna.

Do you know anyone who reads Spanich? If so, then ask him to take a look. This bit is introductory flowery language.

Instead, try:
"Por quanto es justo, que mis Vassallos beneméritos, experimenten de mi Real gratitud… Vos Joseph Francisco Sagui, Vecino de la mi Ciudad de Barcelona, y Barón que decís ser del Castillo de Goz en el mi Principado de Cataluña.. he tenido por bien concederos el Privilegio, y Honor de Ciudadano Honrado de Barcelona, para Vos, y para vuestros Hijos, y Descendientes..."
This is simply the privilegio. If either the title leaf or colophon are present, try posting an image.

Fernando V, King of Castile, Leon, the two Sicilies etc ceased to be King of Castile in 1504, (or 1516 if you count the period when he ruled jointly with his mad daughter,) so the book may be earlier than you think (or may be not, since the privilegio & dedication might still be included in later editions.)

I have the same problem. Cannot find answer anywhere.
I'm pretty sure it is because we are new users and need a certain number of posts.

Your manuscript is a very nice example of the Carta de Hidalguia - often referred to as a "Carta Executoria" - a Patent of Nobility. Use "Carta Executoria" (in quotes) in a Google image search, and you'll see a number of examples within the same age frame as yours.

From the coat of arms in the picture with the name of Don Fernando etc., I think that the king in question is Ferdinand V1, reigned 1746 to 1759.
The coat of arms includes, in the centre, the arms of Bourbon, which were not added until 1700.
So the document is mid-18th century, rather than mid-16th
