I'm planning to do research on Dystopian novels. Earlier I'd thought of Soviet or Russian Utopian writing, but now I'm concentrating on the entire 20th century, regardless of nationality.

I met the person who could be my guide if I'm able to present something substantial; his area of expertise is drama. He asked me what theory I would be applying to the Dystopian novels, and what I am seeking to prove. Now I am totally stumped regarding this. I've read the novels themselves, but I can't think of what theory to apply, like feminist theory or any other, and what to prove. Tomorrow I'm supposed to submit my project proposal, or else I'll have to wait for another year.

Can any of you please help me out? I think this might have to do with sociology, about theories of nations, but I don't know anything about that. So does anything come to your mind regarding a theory to which I could anchor the novels and prove a point?

Thanks.
