This isn't very much different from the experience of Dante when he first spotted Beatrice on the street when they were both little kids. There is also a scene in Citizen Kane in which Everett Sloane's character tells the reporter investigating Kane's life that he (Sloane) once saw a young girl in the window of a passing train and that years later not a day goes by that he doesn't think of her.

Your piece reflects a keen observation of an aspect of human nature in that speculation upon what might have been can be more satisfying than the actuality.
