should one be allowed to imitate works of others without being hounded?
I do not mean copy the entire original but take ideas here and there.
for example use quotes from stories/sentences/dialogues/characters and use them to write another story.
the idea is to be inspire and inspired others to follow. one has to start somewhere.

another example:
an artist who imitates another work of arts such paintings. why not just call it another take on on a given painting rather then naming it fake.
the ability to copy another master is a skill of its own right. why not call it art rather then fake?
what is fake is to deny the right to an artist to another work he or she likes.
what is fake is to call a work of art fake and ignore that it has been to measure with another work.
denying people to copy other works only makes the idea worse by disallowing it and calling it fake.

Influences are up to a point.
and this is done by replicating other pieces of work.
to be influenced by others is up to a point and so to replicate others workd is to show one's appreciations of them.
But not to be influenced by others also holds its importance in that one should veer more into their own ideologies and therefore work towards to achieve it rather lurk in the shadows of someone else's work.
originality stems from it. to be aware not to step into someone's else territories by trying to be them.
literature does not follow it borrows then narrows. it is not a pilgrim voyage it's a personal adventure with new ventures.
