As the rain pours down,
a lonely piper
plays Scotland the Brave
along the cappuccino strip
where too many children
have had their playtime snatched.

Forced out into the elements,
little wretched souls
peer through the gates
of Fremantle Markets
only to find people choose
their fish to fry.

Good stuff. I would call it Stolen Children to avoid the question of whether or not children can be innocent. I loved it.

Thanks. Stolen Children has implications all its own and that's not what the poem is about.

You have aptly described the dark shadow that hovers around the innocent kinder. I think that choose should be choosing. All quibbles aside, I enjoyed your poem.

Thanks V. I disagree about choosing. The statement is that people get to choose what fish they want to fry meaning they are free to turn a blind eye to other things going on around them. I could change 'their' to 'what'
