I'm a new student in MA program. My professor asked me to write a research proposal and she gave me only two weeks to come up with a topic.
I need some ideas for topics to help me work quickly. So, I appreciate any help I can get.

I think it would be good for you to come up with a topic on your own because only YOU know what you're most interested in. That's what will keep you motivated, resulting in the best outcome. The hours researching will fly by and the words will flow. What burning questions do you have that you would enjoy researching to find answers, study and trial results, opinions, etc related to your particular field of study?

If you're on an MA programme, then presumably you already have a BA in a relevant discipline? Surely you are better placed than us to suggest what kinds of literature you are interested in?
My field is life, any ideas of what I should do?

Though I get the feeling you might insist on living Chinese style.

Not in the least. The only thing I really share with Chinese culture is a life style is a personal taste in dishes (both porcelain, and what goes on top) good tea, big libraries, and literature. Most of these things are lost on the current generation, who are more into pop music, coca cola, KFC and soap operas. My preoccupation then seems a private endeavor as the tiny room I live in becomes more full with books (my tea table is now being conquered on the desk by stacks of history books).
As for topics on literature, why not tell us what books you have read, original poster, and we may better direct you to resources that will discuss current issues in the field. Generally if you want to make a career out of research, you should find the top 10 or so most important periodicals, read what those authors are writing, and then read the reviewed books you like or that interest you. So for me, I will get a periodical on Medieval Chinese literature, and I will look for things I like (before just poetry, now buddhism, archeology and poetry), then I will check what they reviewed for something interesting, and flip through the articles.
If you want to save time, the ultimate research trick is to read the contents, the index, the intro and the conclusion. The rest, if the book is written well, should fill themselves in. Either way, the Index is the most important thing to read, assuming familiarity with the subject matter.

Why not ask your professor what research she is doing, and what she would recommend as a good project for MA students. Then choose the one she is most keen about. In this way, you are more likely to get lots of help from the professor, because she will be an expert in that subject. Then, if you do well, and why wouldn't you, she is more likely to help you do a PhD in her pet subject, and so on, until you are a professor yourself. Or you could do what Melanie suggests, but then the professor might not be at all interested in what you come up with, know nothing about it, and may give little help, both on the current project, and in your future career in literature (which might be short if you don't "play the game".) Then again, maybe you don't want a career in literature, so certainly do what Melanie suggests.
