Hi - hope I can add something here and maybe learn something too.
I read mainly classic lit - well pre 1960 stuff with a good reputation. My recent reads:
Heart is a Lonley Hunter
Adam Bede - Eliot
Carver - short stories (2 volumes)
Salinger (9 stories)
The Swimmer - Cheever
The above are my choices - all much enjoyed except the salinger which was a bit of a let down.
My wife insisted I read Murder On The Orient Express (Christie) which I dutifully read and is not my cup of tea.
I am 49 - wouldn't mind writing something myself - seem to get stuck all the time with enthusiasm so look forwards to checking out the creative writing side of this forum to see how others manage. It's not easy - particularly when you read top notch stuff
I also love Shakespeare - my wife almost killed me recently when we watched Olivier's Richard III on video - she said - they didn't know how to speak English in those times.
