It doesn't have to be horror literature, but any story which made you feel like you were, in some degree, in danger from your own emotions and reflection on the work you were reading.
I am of the view that if an author is building a labyrinth, he should also try to help the reader not come face to face with the minotaur in the center of that misleading final corridor.
I recall the first time i read something by Kafka, i was 17, in a bookstore, and happened to be drawn to the cover of the book titled "The Castle". Upon reading its first few sentences i sensed that something new was to be discovered by me in those expanding lines. :)
