Mr. Corvus was wearing his black-and-white checkered pants and top hat today, along with his cylinder cane. Walking down the edge of the sidewalk in his usual grin, he was being followed on his right by a swarming bees of photographers and journalists, while on the street to his left marched his most trusted lieutenants - who were all quiet and wearing dark sunglasses. Before retiring to his awaiting limousine, Mr. Corvus lyrically orated his testimony to a bizarre looking audience:
“It is true,
I saw the beast in his human flesh,
It is a man we all know.
He lives as a recluse in a monastery he runs - outside the sphere of this great city.
For twelve years he hadn’t shown his face to the public,
For the last three have sightings of the strange beast been reported.
We should have known better.”

Andre finally decides to brave the heavy rains and respond to the relentless ringing. Attached to a tree in his front yard, Andre runs to the corded phone to answer. Past the distracting sounds of relentless rain drops and static, he hears a child giggling. He looks down the street to a yellow painted house.
.
He opens the shower curtain to find Churlov smiling with his own corded phone in his hand. They both laugh. Andre motions his index finger to his mouth.
“Lock the door.”
Churlov gives Andre a brown paper bag. In it Andre finds a loaf of raisin bread.
“Eat it.”
Andre hesitates. Churlov then takes the loaf of raisin bread himself and splits it open. In it, between the grains of raisin and dough are purple tablets.
“I finally got it. It cost $50,000,000.”
Impatient as ever, Churlov picks out a purple tablet and chews it in his mouth.
“I knew it’d be grape flavored.”
.
Churlov sits cross-legged on his bed, looking glum and bored. He keeps his corded phone by him. The rain outside is getting worse as thunder and lightning begin to strike the neighborhood.

The Devil’s Light
Starring Daniel Day Lewis
“Well, are you boys going to invite me over or would you all rather keep staring at me as if I’m some uncaged beast?”
The three Jewish college boys obliged.
“Well then, follow me.”
.
A voluptuous brunette walked out of the mens-room sparkling in her perspired skin, “Oh, don’t mind me. It’s rather hot in there, if you know what I mean.”
The four standing gentlemen all saluted her with their tall blonds and went on discussing matters of masculinity.
.
“You dreamt about her last night didn’t you?”
Kotzer's expressionless face - ridiculous behind his thickly-framed glasses - hadn’t changed, but the context had.
“Well, here’s the difference between you and I: I know of what I want, you dream of what you want. And because I’m so certain of my desires, I’m able to act on them. You on the other hand, are as doubtful as a clouded conscious, strangled by your wishes in the face of expectations."
.
“Allow me to demonstrate. That girl you’ve been talking about, the one I believe you to have a hard on for? Well, I want her.”
Daniel went over to the blonde at the bar, put her under a spell with some words to her ears and took her by the hand to the mens-room. Before entering, he slyly whispered to Kotzer, “This could have been you.”
///
“But I only left my bag there for a second! You mean to tell me that while I was carrying my other one inside, the traffic inspector took it believing it to be lost? And now I have to find a way to travel thirty miles West in this brisk cold and snow to go fetch it?”
“That is correct, sir.”
